Any kind of medicine should not be added to the water if possible,
especially if the sickness is
not contagious to other fish. This is because most medications will harm beneficial
bacteria and
indirectly worsen the aquarium environment. There are natural things
that you can add to your
water without resorting to strong chemicals.
When possible, set up an external hospital tank and cure your fish in the
hospital tank.
