Cheap, Hardy Fish
The following are some cheap, hardy fish that you can
use to cycle your fish tank
| Smaller barbs | (tiger, gold, rosy), |
| larger tetras | (head and tail light, red eye, red minor, buenos aires), |
| danios | (zebra, leopard, pearl, gold) |
| rasboras | (heteromorpha, scissortail, redtail, brilliant) |
These fish are hardy enough to tolerate bad water conditions
in the period of cycling as
ammonia and nitrite levels rised to an unhealthy level.
To keep uneaten food to a minimum, you may add a few hardy Corydoras (green,
albino or peppered).
If you are unable to identify cheap, hardy fish, then you may use the selling
price as a guide.
Usually fish that are cheap are low priced because they are mass produced
in fish farms.
Because they are 'no-value' fish, they are usually raised in overcrowded conditions
with
poor water quality. Delicate fish cannot be raised in such mass production
conditions
thus they are more expensive to raise and are more expensive at the fish shop.
Therefore, in some way, cheaper fish are usually hardier fish!
